A meta analysis suggests that exposure to drugs including statins, antihypertensive medications and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDS) can provide protection against Alzheimer’s disease. Surprisingly, the same study found no evidence for a significant association between occupational exposures to industrial chemicals and Alzheimer’s disease risk, suggesting that while some chemicals can provide protection against the disease there have yet to be any identified that can make it worse. These findings appear to be in stark contrast to those of other recent studies suggesting that even non-occupational exposure to environmental pollutants is a risk factor in the onset and progression neurodgenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's (Kioumourtzoglou et al., 2015; Bhatt et al., 2015).
